If you want to learn how you can easily stop negative thoughts that keep replaying in your mind when you want to sleep, read on.

Have you ever gone to bed with your mind whirling? It’s hard to sleep isn’t it? Usually sleep comes after hours of ruminating over the same thoughts. Do you usually find that the only way you can fall asleep during these times is through exhaustion? There is a simple trick.

Circular Brooding Is Like A Tape Playing Over and Over In Your Mind

The human mind is fascinating. We have the ability to fixate on negativity and pain. We dwell on these thoughts until we feel exhausted and defeated.

Brooding can rob you of your happiness, vitality and even health.

The Trick To Sleep During High Stress Times

Never worry in bed. If you find yourself lying in bed at night worrying or brooding, get up. Your mind and body will make the association between your bed and trouble. Rest, relaxation and rejuvenation should be associated with lying down. When you are depressed, simply get up.

Now that you are up, do something about the problem that your mind is brooding over. Your mind is seeking a solution. If you can give it a solution or potential solutions, it will stop the circular thinking. Action is the key to stopping the tape from playing over and over again.

Grab a piece of paper and a pen. Make two columns. On one side, list all the ways this situation is causing you problems. On the other side, list all the ways that you can possibly address it, deal with it, or come out on top of it. Write possible solutions no matter how far fetched they seem.

At the end of writing, your mind will be calmer and you can go to bed and sleep.

The Problem With Rumination

According to Psychology Today Ruminating is simply repetitively going over a thought or a problem without completion.

When people are depressed, the themes of rumination are typically about being inadequate or worthless. The repetition and the feelings of inadequacy raise anxiety and anxiety interferes with solving the problem.

Having a thought repeat over and over actually prevents you from solving the problem.

You must be proactive. Use the paper technique to change your brain from dwelling on a thought to solving a problem.
